Wiyumiririe Multipurpose Dam is one of Kenya vision 2030 development projects. The project targets to supply potable and adequate water by gravity to areas of Nyandarua County that have been experiencing acute water shortage and areas of Laikipia County that include Nyahuru Township and its environs which are currently served by a pumping scheme that abstract water from a polluted source that makes operation and maintenance costs of the existing water system very expensive. The dam is located 37km to the south east of Nyahururu Town and across Pesi River and targets to impound 16,000,000m3 of water. This project will consist of 45m high earthfill dam with clay core embankment and associated works, intake tower of 3,000m capacity, clear water transmission steel/HDPE pipeline of diameters ranging from 1000mm to 200mm and total length of 160km and other storage tanks of total capacity of 4,000m3
